Effective for the Spring 2018 season, YSA will not be grouping players based on their grade. Instead, YSA will group players on teams based on the calendar year of their birth. This change aligns YSA with the other clubs in Billings, in Montana, and around the country. US Soccer has directed all youth programs in the United States to adopt a calendar year registration process as part of its player development initiatives. According to US Soccer, "Birth year registration, which requires that a youth player’s registration process is based on his/her birth year, allows for a consistent approach in how players are recognized for competition. Along with aligning the United States with the international standard observed by the majority of FIFA member nations, this step ensures that an increased focus will be on the developmental needs of the child within the context of his or her age group." We appreciate your patience and cooperation with this new policy. Players will be placed as follows:
2000-2003 Coed * 2004-2005 Coed
2006-2007 Girls 2006-2007 Boys
2008 Girls 2008 Boys
2009 Girls 2009 Boys
2010 Girls 2010 Boys
2011 Girls 2011 Boys
2012-2013 Girls 2012-2013 Boys
* Concessions will be made for 1999 high school students

Although YSA is not a school league, the school listed on the registration is used as a guide for team placement. Teams are comprised of players from multiple schools within general geographical areas, but keep in mind we are not always able to keep everyone as close as ideal, depending on several factors. Those listing private schools will be grouped the same as public schools unless a player is the only participant from a school, in which case the home address will be used as a guide. Private school participants that prefer to be placed by home location rather than with others from their school should list an area school or list “Home” for their school. Home school participants are placed by home address. Siblings of the same age group as outlined above will be assigned to the same team, and parents who volunteer to coach are always assigned to coach their child’s team.

YSA cannot accommodate requests for placement for any reason including carpooling, scheduling and coach/player preferences.

All team assignments are final and will not be changed for any reason other than for YSA administrative purposes.

To obtain a refund, please submit a self-addressed envelope no later than March 31st to YSA, 1445 Avenue B, Suite F, Billings, MT 59102, and include the player’s name. $5 will be deducted from player registration fees to cover administrative costs. Refund checks will be issued at the end of April. Early notification by email is appreciated so we can replace the player with someone from the waiting list as quickly as possible.

Late registrants will incur a $5 late fee and will be placed on a wait list for possible placement subject to availability. Registrations for the wait list must be done online. Wait list status updates will be sent by email. YSA places more than 80% of wait list registrants, but in the event YSA is unable to place someone by April 15th, refund checks will be issued & mailed by the end of April. $5 will be deducted from player registration fees to cover administrative costs.

All players must wear shin guards completely covered by socks and soccer cleats or appropriate athletic shoes at all practices and games. Softball/baseball cleats with toe cleats are not allowed. In addition, players need a full water bottle and a soccer ball. (Size 3 ball for K - 2nd grades; Size 4 ball for 3rd-6th grades; Size 5 ball for 7th-12th grades.) Team T-shirts will be provided for each player and will be distributed by team coach.

Recycle your soccer gear! YSA accepts gently used soccer gear for those interested in donating or re-using soccer gear. The “Give & Take” soccer equipment is kept at the YSA office.
